In 1921 Frederick Banting and his medical student Charles H. Best discovered the hormone insulin. This led to a cure for people with diabetes. My mum and my sister had diabetes and wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for these scientists so they were my favourite scientisits when I was growing up.

When I was growing up, I loved Diane Fossey and Jane Goodall and the work they did with gorillas and chimpanzees, respectively. As I grew older, I became a huge fan of Charles Darwin, Alfred Russell Wallace and Mary Anning, amongst many others.

But I think my favourite scientist wasn’t a scientist at all, he was (and still is) a naturalist and broadcaster. That’s the incomparable David Attenborough. I might be cheating my choosing him, but he does have degrees and he’s done a huge amount for nature and conservation, so I think I can get away with it. 🙂
