In 1921 Frederick Banting and his medical student Charles H. Best discovered the hormone insulin. This led to a cure for people with diabetes. My mum and my sister had diabetes and wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for these scientists so they are my favourite scientists.
That’s a great question. I have to say that I’m not in the running for my own favourite scientist. When I was growing up, I loved Diane Fossey and Jane Goodall and the work they did with gorillas and chimpanzees, respectively. As I grew older, I became a huge fan of Charles Darwin, Alfred Russell Wallace and Mary Anning, amongst many others.
It’s such a tough question to answer. There have been and are so many brilliant scientists who’ve done so much to further our understanding of nature, advance conservation and help humanity. I don’t think I can pick one – it would do a disservice to the many, many scientists I hold in high regard.
